New Jersey Motorsports Park opened its gates in July 2008, fulfilling a vision to create a comprehensive motorsports facility in the region. The park was developed on the former Millville Airport grounds, a historic site that once served as a gunnery training facility for America's World War II pilots. This connection to aviation history is honored throughout the facility, with the Thunderbolt name itself paying tribute to the P-47 Thunderbolt fighters that once flew from the airfield.

Since its inception, NJMP has hosted numerous prestigious racing series including NASCAR K&N Pro Series, ARCA Racing Series, AMA Pro Racing, and SCCA events.
