How to be faster on the track - story of Vetkuro

by Paweł Sobociński |

How it all started

Before I answer the title question, let me introduce myself. My name is Paul, I'm 35 years old, and a few years ago I came up with the idea of creating a tool that could solve my biggest pains while driving on the track. It started innocently enough - with passion and step-by-step moments dedicated to realizing this vision.

While going to various automotive events and trying to crank out the best lap possible, I noticed that I was missing a tool that would allow me to better analyze each run. Questions arose: where can I improve? What else can I optimize to be faster?

This is how the idea of Vetkuro was born. From the first sketches on a piece of paper, through design and development to testing on a race track, I have come a long way until I can present a mobile and web application. Vetkuro is more than just a stopwatch - it's a tool that measures time and allows you to draw conclusions, helping you optimize and improve your performance on the track.

My path to motorsport

The first - and so far the only amateur endurance race (4h) won in its class, at Silesia Ring track

Ever since I was a kid, I've been passionate about sports cars and motorcycles - their sound and appearance never let me pass by. I had my first experience with time trials and competitions when I became independent and bought my dream Subaru WRX STI, with which I started in an amateur rally. However, I quickly realized that it was better to gain experience in a slower car, and switched to a budget Nissan Micra with a 1.3 engine. I drove dozens of different events, amateur and semi-amateur rallies on asphalt and gravel.

There was a break, but the passion for racing returned when I discovered virtual racing, which became my hobby for several years and through which I met many fantastic people. It was simracing that introduced me to the world of telemetry and optimization - the search for fractions of seconds to gain on the track.

In recent years I have returned to live racing, mainly in the form of time attack, taking part in the “Central Europe Time Attack Cup” (Track Masters). I have competed on such tracks as the Red Bull Ring, Hungaroring, Nürburgring, Brno, Autodrom Most (my favorite), Slovakiaring, Silesia Ring and Tor Poznan.

Where did the idea for the innovative tool come from

We currently have several options for measuring track time, but most I encountered had their problems: synchronization was difficult, data difficult to handle or analyze. Vetkuro aims to solve these problems. With the mobile app, we want to make it possible to collect data, upload it to online services and analyze it easily - all without the need to install special programs or convert files. All you need is a web browser.

Our Mission - to help you be faster on the track

The goal of the project is to provide a tool that will help you be faster on the track in a simple and intuitive way. Vetkuro will point out details and suggest points for optimization. The road to this goal is bumpy and challenging, but today we present a basic tool to collect data and measure lap times. The list of features on our roadmap is long, and we have no shortage of ideas. We hope that the first users will start joining us and together we will travel the path of improvement.
