Vetkuro updates - Sector Times, Optimal Laps, and the Tenths You Left Behind

by Paweł Sobociński |

Every driver knows the feeling. You come back to the pits, pull off the helmet, and check your fastest lap of the session. It's fine. Respectable, even. But something doesn't sit right - you know there was time out there you didn't catch. You just can't tell where.

I've been chasing that feeling for as long as I've been racing. And for most of that time, the only way to actually answer the question was to pay for professional telemetry that cost more than some people's first car. Gatekept tools, gatekept insight.

That's exactly the gap Vetkuro was built to close. With 1.0.3, we're taking another step toward closing it.

Sector Times and Optimal Lap Time - Where Every Tenth Goes

The headline of this release is sector analysis. Vetkuro now breaks every lap down into sectors and shows you exactly how fast you were through each one.

It sounds simple. It isn't.

Once you start comparing sectors lap by lap, patterns jump out immediately. The corner you thought was fine turns out to be costing you two tenths. The fast section where you thought you were killing it is actually wildly inconsistent. That "perfect lap" wasn't quite so perfect after all.

This is the kind of analysis that's been standard in professional motorsport for decades. Now it's in your phone.

Alongside sectors, we've added optimal lap time. Vetkuro takes your fastest sector from every lap in the session and stitches them into one theoretical lap — the lap you would have done if everything had come together in one go.

If your best is a 1:42.3 and your optimal shows a 1:41.6, that's seven tenths waiting for you. Not from getting faster — from getting more consistent. It's equal parts motivation and reality check.

More OBD Adapters Supported

vLinker MC+ and NEXAS NexLink are now working with Vetkuro

We've expanded OBD compatibility to include vLinker MC+ and NEXAS NexLink. Two affordable, reliable adapters that let you pull engine data — RPM, throttle, coolant temp — straight into your sessions alongside GPS and video.
More options means fewer barriers to getting started. Grab whichever one fits your setup and go.

NMEA GPS Support

The test device we use for testing.

We've added support for generic GNSS receivers that speak NMEA 0183 over Bluetooth. If you've got one of the cheap, universal GPS devices floating around the motorsport community, Vetkuro will now pick it up and log data from it like any other supported receiver.

Why it matters: 10-25 Hz is serious update rate territory — that's a position fix every ~40 milliseconds. Combined with NMEA being an open standard, it means you're no longer locked into any single vendor's hardware to get high-rate GPS into your sessions. Pick the receiver that fits your budget, pair it, and go.

What Else Changed

This release wasn't just about new features. We spent a lot of time sharpening the things you already rely on:

  • The session list no longer freezes when you have lots of recordings. Open, scroll, done.
  • Lap deltas are now position-based instead of distance-based — geometrically precise lap comparisons, not an approximation.
  • GPS and OBD polling correctly pauses when the app goes to the background. No more burning battery or logging junk data between sessions.
  • Cleaner BLE device handling and better recovery when a GoPro disconnects mid-session.

None of these are flashy. All of them matter on track day.

One More Thing

A big thank you to everyone who's been testing 1.0.3 before release - especially the Time Attack Cup drivers who've been giving us feedback after every round. The fact that you trust us with your data on competition weekends is not something we take lightly. Update the app, take it to your next session, and tell us what you find. If something breaks, tell us that too. Every bit of feedback goes straight into the next release.
