Technical Specifications and Track Features
The centerpiece of NOLA Motorsports Park is its 2.75-mile main circuit, designed by renowned track architect Alan Wilson. This FIA-approved track features 16 turns with a combination of technical corners, sweeping bends, and a straight that allows vehicles to reach impressive speeds. The track surface is composed of high-quality asphalt with excellent grip characteristics in both dry and wet conditions.
What makes NOLA particularly versatile is its modular design that allows for multiple configurations, ranging from a 1.1-mile north track to a 1.6-mile south track, accommodating everything from professional racing events to driver training programs. The track width varies between 40-50 feet throughout the circuit, allowing for safe passing zones while maintaining competitive racing lines. Its flat topography with subtle elevation changes presents unique challenges for drivers mastering the ideal racing line.
Facilities and Specialized Areas
Beyond the main circuit, NOLA Motorsports Park houses a world-class karting facility featuring one of North America's largest and most sophisticated karting tracks. The 30-acre karting complex includes multiple configurations and rental options for visitors wanting a taste of motorsport excitement.
The facility boasts modern amenities including climate-controlled garages, hospitality suites, conference rooms, and classroom spaces for driver education. An 8-acre autocross pad provides space for additional driving activities and vehicle testing. Spectator areas are strategically positioned around the track, offering excellent visibility of the racing action while ensuring comfort and safety.
The park's infrastructure includes professional timing systems, safety barriers meeting international standards, and comprehensive medical facilities. Paddock areas are spacious and well-equipped with power, water, and technical support services for teams and participants.
History
NOLA Motorsports Park opened its doors in 2011, fulfilling the vision of businessman and motorsports enthusiast Laney Chouest. Since its inception, the facility has hosted numerous prestigious events including the IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Louisiana in 2015, various Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) championships, and professional karting competitions.
Though relatively young compared to some historic circuits, NOLA has quickly established itself as a significant venue in American motorsports. The park has weathered challenges including weather events typical of the Gulf Coast region, implementing sophisticated drainage systems as part of continuous improvements to the facility.
Today, NOLA Motorsports Park continues to evolve, serving as both a competitive racing venue and a community asset offering driver training programs, corporate events, and recreational activities that make motorsports accessible to a broad audience while contributing to the economic development of the greater New Orleans area.
