Overview

Bira Circuit, located in Chonburi Province, Thailand, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Pattaya and 120 kilometers from Bangkok, is a prominent motorsport facility in the region. Established in 1986, the 2.410-kilometer circuit is named after Prince Birabongse Bhanudej Bhanubandh, Thailand's first Formula One driver, reflecting the nation's rich motorsport heritage. The track's compact and twisty layout, combined with the tropical climate, offers a challenging environment for drivers and teams.

Technical Specifications and Track Features

The circuit features a 2.410-kilometer (1.498-mile) layout with 12 turns, including chicanes and a relatively fast downhill double-apex corner. The track is known for its bumpy surface and elevation changes, adding complexity to the driving experience. The main straight allows for competitive speeds before entering technical sections that test driver skill and vehicle setup. The consistent track width supports overtaking opportunities, while advanced drainage systems ensure safety during the monsoon season.

Facilities and Specialized Areas

Bira Circuit encompasses an area of 65 acres, featuring a variety of facilities to support motorsport activities. The venue includes 30 pit garages, a control tower, medical center, and meeting rooms. Spectator areas can accommodate up to 100,000 people, offering excellent views of key track sections. Additional amenities include an off-road track, rally stage, and an international-standard go-kart facility. The circuit is also a popular venue for product launches, car and tire testing, sales seminars, and promotional events.

History

Since its inauguration in 1986, Bira Circuit has been integral to the development of motorsport in Southeast Asia. The track has hosted various international and regional events, including the South East Asia Touring Car Zone Challenge (SEATCZC) since 1992 and the Asian Formula 2000 series since 1997. In 2006, the go-kart track was overhauled to meet Commission Internationale de Karting standards. The circuit continues to host events such as the Thailand Super Series and the Yamaha Championship, contributing to the growth of motorsport in the region.
