Known for hosting rounds of MotoGP, World Superbike Championship, and various touring car championships, Brno offers spectators excellent viewing opportunities across its natural amphitheater layout. The circuit's proximity to the city of Brno makes it easily accessible while still providing a countryside racing environment with stunning panoramic views of the Moravian landscape.

Technical Specifications and Track Features

The Automotodrom Brno spans a length of 5.403 kilometers (3.357 miles) with a track width of 15 meters throughout most sections. The layout features 14 corners – 8 right and 6 left – with a challenging mix of high-speed sweepers, technical combinations, and hard braking zones. The circuit's most distinctive characteristic is its dramatic elevation change of nearly 74 meters between its highest and lowest points, creating a physically demanding challenge for competitors. The main straight stretches approximately 636 meters, allowing vehicles to reach impressive speeds before the heavy braking zone of Turn 1. The track surface offers excellent grip while still being known to evolve throughout race weekends, adding a strategic element to tire management and setup decisions.

Facilities and Specialized Areas

Brno's infrastructure includes a modern pit building with 36 fully-equipped garages, sophisticated timing facilities, and race control systems. The paddock area provides ample space for teams, support services, and hospitality structures. Spectator amenities include numerous grandstands positioned at key viewing points, particularly around the start/finish straight and the dramatic downhill section after Turn 1. The circuit offers VIP hospitality areas, a press center accommodating up to 300 journalists, and comprehensive media facilities. Additionally, the track features advanced safety systems including extensive run-off areas, TecPro barriers at critical points, and a fully-equipped medical center. For non-racing days, the venue includes conference rooms, restaurant facilities, and specialized driver training areas that make it a versatile motorsport complex.

History

Originally constructed in 1987 to replace the dangerous old Masaryk Circuit that utilized public roads, the Automotodrom Brno has a rich motorsport heritage that extends back to 1930 when the first Masaryk Grand Prix was held. The modern permanent circuit hosted its first Grand Prix motorcycle race in 1987 and became a fixture on the MotoGP calendar, drawing massive crowds particularly from neighboring countries. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the track underwent several modifications to improve safety standards and spectator facilities while preserving its challenging character. The circuit has witnessed legendary performances from motorsport icons including Valentino Rossi, Marc Márquez, and numerous touring car champions. Despite facing financial challenges in recent years, Automotodrom Brno remains one of Europe's most respected circuits and continues to play a significant role in the region's motorsport culture, combining racing tradition with modern facility standards.
