Description

Overview

Cremona Circuit, located near San Martino del Lago in Lombardy, Italy, is a contemporary motorsport facility that has rapidly gained prominence in European racing. The circuit, inaugurated on July 7, 2011, was initially known as Circuito di San Martino del Lago until its rebranding in 2015. Strategically positioned approximately 100 kilometers from Milan, it offers convenient access for teams and enthusiasts across the continent.

Technical Specifications and Track Features

As of March 2024, the circuit measures 3.768 kilometers (2.342 miles) in length, following recent extensions to accommodate international racing standards. The track comprises 13 turns, with a balanced mix of 5 right-hand and 6 left-hand corners, challenging drivers with a combination of high-speed straights and technical sections. The main straight extends nearly 1 kilometer, allowing top-tier racing vehicles to reach impressive speeds. The track width varies between 12 to 14 meters, providing ample space for competitive racing maneuvers. The surface is composed of high-grade asphalt engineered for optimal grip and durability. Notably, the circuit runs in an anti-clockwise direction.

Facilities and Specialized Areas

Cremona Circuit offers a range of facilities to support both participants and spectators:

  • Paddock Area: An expansive area capable of accommodating multiple racing teams simultaneously.
  • Pit Garages: Modern garages equipped with essential technical infrastructure.
  • Race Control Center: Houses advanced timing systems and track monitoring equipment to ensure precise lap timing and safety oversight.
  • Spectator Amenities: Grandstands with a capacity of approximately 20,000, offering excellent views of key track sections.
  • Additional Facilities: On-site parking, hospitality suites, and dining options to enhance the visitor experience.

History

Since its inauguration in 2011, Cremona Circuit has undergone significant developments to enhance its infrastructure and reputation in the motorsport community. In 2014, the circuit introduced two bypass loops along the back straight, allowing for alternative configurations, though these were seldom used. A notable milestone was achieved in October 2023 when the circuit secured a five-year contract to host the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), with the inaugural event scheduled for September 2024. Preparations for this event included track extensions completed by March 2024, increasing the circuit length to 3.768 kilometers, and upgrading spectator facilities to accommodate up to 20,000 fans.

Cremona Circuit continues to establish itself as a premier racing venue, attracting international events and contributing to the rich motorsport heritage of Italy.
