History

Donington Park's rich history dates back to 1931 when it became the first permanent park circuit in England. The track gained international prominence in 1938 by hosting the legendary European Grand Prix where Tazio Nuvolari claimed a famous victory. After serving as a military vehicle depot during World War II, Donington fell into disuse until businessman Tom Wheatcroft acquired and painstakingly restored it, reopening the circuit in 1977. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Donington hosted prestigious events including World Championship motorcycle racing and the European Formula One Grand Prix in 1993, where Ayrton Senna delivered what many consider the greatest first lap in F1 history.
