Technical Specifications and Track Features

The Penbay circuit features a FIA Grade 2 homologation, allowing it to host most international motorsport events except Formula 1. The main track configuration includes 12 corners with a perfect balance of left and right turns, creating a flowing rhythm that challenges drivers' technical abilities. The 1.2 km main straight enables vehicles to reach impressive speeds before entering a technical section that tests braking stability and cornering precision. With elevation changes of approximately 7 meters throughout the course, drivers experience subtle but impactful transitions that affect vehicle dynamics. The asphalt surface has been specifically formulated to withstand Taiwan's climate conditions while providing excellent grip levels in varied weather situations. A state-of-the-art race control tower houses timing systems and safety monitoring equipment. The paddock area features 25 professional garages with modern amenities for teams and technical staff. For corporate clients, multiple hospitality suites overlook the start-finish straight, while a dedicated media center supports broadcasting and press operations. The venue includes specialized driver training areas, including a skidpad for vehicle control exercises and a separate karting track that serves as both an entertainment venue and a grassroots racing development facility. Comprehensive safety features include extensive runoff areas, tire barriers, and a fully-equipped medical center staffed during all racing activities.

History

Opened in 2011, Penbay International Circuit emerged as part of Taiwan's strategy to develop world-class sporting infrastructure and promote motorsport culture in the country. The ₺NT 2 billion project represented a significant investment in Taiwan's motorsport future. Since its inauguration, the circuit has hosted rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series, Asian Touring Car Championship, and various national racing series. The facility has also become a preferred testing venue for Asian automotive manufacturers and a popular destination for track day enthusiasts.
