The circuit maintains separate tracks for karting and off-road experiences, making it a versatile motorsport complex. Spectator facilities include multiple grandstands and viewing banks around the circuit that provide excellent vantage points, particularly at the Complex and Club chicane where most overtaking occurs. The paddock area accommodates teams across various racing categories with professional-grade infrastructure.

History

Established on a former World War II airfield, Thruxton began hosting motorsport events in 1950 on a temporary track laid out on the runways. The permanent circuit was inaugurated in its current configuration in 1968, maintaining elements of the airfield's perimeter track. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, it hosted Formula 2 and Formula 3000 races, contributing significantly to its prestigious reputation. Notable champions who honed their skills at Thruxton include Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, and Jenson Button. Despite its historical significance, the circuit has maintained its essential character while implementing modern safety features to meet contemporary standards. Today, Thruxton continues its tradition as a high-speed motorsport venue while functioning as an active airfield, with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance maintaining a base on site—a fitting connection to its aviation heritage.
