Description
Overview
Harris Hill Raceway (H2R) is a challenging 1.82-mile road course nestled in the rolling hills just south of San Marcos, Texas. Designed as a technical driver development circuit, this privately-owned facility offers an exhilarating mix of elevation changes, varied corner types, and strategic straights that test a driver's skill and precision. Located at approximately 29.92°N, 97.87°W, the track serves as a motorsport oasis for enthusiasts from Austin, San Antonio, and beyond, providing a dedicated space for high-performance driving, testing, and club racing events throughout the year.
Technical Specifications and Track Features
Harris Hill features 11 distinct turns with nearly 150 feet of elevation change throughout its layout, making it both technically demanding and physically engaging. The counter-clockwise circuit incorporates a satisfying mixture of high-speed sweepers, technical corners, and challenging switchbacks. Turn 1 begins with an uphill right-hander followed by a fast left-right combination, while the tricky carousel section tests driver patience and line selection. The back straight offers one of the few opportunities for full acceleration before drivers navigate the technical final sector. The track's variable width design—typically 36-40 feet across—allows for multiple racing lines and safe passing zones, emphasizing driver skill over raw horsepower. The meticulously maintained asphalt surface provides excellent grip in various weather conditions, with well-designed runoff areas enhancing overall safety.
Facilities and Specialized Areas
The raceway complex offers comprehensive amenities for both drivers and spectators. The main paddock provides ample space for vehicle preparation, with convenient access to electrical hookups and compressed air stations. A climate-controlled clubhouse overlooks the circuit, featuring meeting spaces, restroom facilities, and a spacious observation deck perfect for viewing most of the track action. For events, H2R offers professional timing systems, experienced corner workers, and on-site safety crews. Adjacent to the main circuit, a skidpad area serves as an ideal space for car control exercises, autocross events, and driver training. The facility also features covered garage spaces available for rent, a tech inspection area, and dedicated spaces for vendors during larger events. Camping is permitted during select weekend activities, creating an immersive motorsport community experience.
History
Founded in 2007 by Bo Rivers and a small group of motorsport enthusiasts, Harris Hill Raceway was conceived as a private membership club where driving enthusiasts could pursue their passion in a controlled environment. The track's design, crafted with input from professional drivers and engineers, intentionally prioritized technical driving skills over straight-line speed. Construction began in 2008, with the facility officially opening in 2011 after careful development to preserve the natural topography while creating a challenging circuit. Over the years, Harris Hill has evolved from a members-only facility to a venue that also hosts select public events, driving schools, and manufacturer testing days. The track maintains a balance between exclusive club access and outreach programs that introduce new generations to motorsport. Today, H2R continues its mission of providing a safe, technical, and enjoyable driving experience while fostering a passionate community of automotive enthusiasts in Central Texas.
