Indianapolis Motor Speedway lap times
Timed from GPS on real track days, not typed in. Compare within one layout and one vehicle class, because a motorcycle lap and a car lap are not the same thing.

About Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Overview
Indianapolis Motor Speedway stands on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana, and is best known for its 2.5-mile rectangular oval and the Indianapolis 500, first run in 1911. Inside the oval lies a permanent road course that has hosted Formula One, MotoGP, IndyCar, sports car and GT racing since 2000. The grounds cover more than 559 acres, and the venue has been owned by Penske Entertainment since January 2020. The speedway was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
Technical Specifications and Track Features
The road course used for the IndyCar Grand Prix measures 2.439 miles (3.925 km) and has 14 turns. It combines part of the oval's front stretch, a twisting infield section inside the oval's fourth turn, the long Hulman Boulevard straight through the middle of the infield, a sequence of bends toward the south end, a stretch on the oval asphalt around Turn 2 and the south short chute, and a final infield complex inside oval Turn 1 that returns to the front stretch. The track is asphalt, but the start and finish line is the famous Yard of Bricks, a one-yard strip left from the 3.2 million bricks laid in 1909, when the rest of the brick surface was paved over in October 1961. The 2026 IndyCar race on the course ran 85 laps, a distance of 207.32 miles.
Facilities and Specialized Areas
The front stretch is lined by the main grandstands and the Pagoda, with Gasoline Alley garages and paddock buildings behind the pit lane. The speedway counts 257,325 permanent seats. An emergency medical center, a media center and a dirt track sit within the grounds. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, opened in 1956, has occupied its building in the infield since 1976. The Brickyard Crossing golf course, which began in 1929 as the Speedway Golf Course, has 14 holes outside the track and four holes inside the oval.
History
Founder Carl G. Fisher broke ground in March 1909 and the track opened in August 1909 with a motorcycle meeting. Eddie Rickenbacker owned it from 1927 until Tony Hulman bought it in November 1945, and the Hulman family kept it for more than seven decades. Acceleration and deceleration lanes were added in 1993 and 1994, and stock cars arrived with the first Brickyard 400 in 1994. The first road course, 2.605 miles with 13 turns, was completed in 2000 for the Formula One United States Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher won the first race on September 24, 2000, and the event ran until 2007, including the 2005 race in which only six cars started after the Michelin teams withdrew. MotoGP used a modified layout with a new infield section called the Snake Pit from 2008 to 2015, and Grand-Am sports cars raced at the Brickyard Grand Prix in 2012 and 2013. The course was heavily revised in 2014 for the first IndyCar Grand Prix. It has since hosted the SCCA National Championship Runoffs in 2017 and 2021, the IMSA Battle on the Bricks and, from 2020, the Indianapolis 8 Hour of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
